Summary of Our Privacy Policy

Apni Prerna has never sold your information or your child’s information to anyone for advertising, and we never will. We ask for only the information we need to provide a safe, monitored, distraction-free digital learning experience. This policy tells you what information we collect from you and your child’s device, what we do with it, who can access it, and what choices you have.

We only collect what we actually need. Some of that is information you actively give us when you create a Parent account or register your child. Some is information our software collects from your child’s learning device in order to deliver its core safety and monitoring features — this policy explains exactly what that includes.

Part I — Information Apni Prerna Collects and Controls

1. What Information We Collect

We have information about you and your child only if (a) you provide it yourself, (b) our software automatically collects it from the registered device, or (c) we obtain it from a third party such as a payment processor or sign-in provider.

1.1 Information You Provide Us

Account signup: When you create a Parent account, we ask for your name, email address, phone number, and a password. You may optionally provide a photo, time zone, or language preference.
Child/Student registration: To set up a monitored profile for your child, we ask for your child’s name and age or date of birth, and the grade or class level, so that content filtering and learning features are age-appropriate.
Customer support: Information you submit when contacting us for help, reporting an issue, or giving feedback.
Payment processing: When you purchase a subscription, we collect your name, contact information, and payment details. We store the cardholder name, billing address, and expiry date, but we do not store your full card number — card details are handled by our secured third-party payment gateway.
Testimonials: If you agree to let us feature your feedback publicly, we will show you the testimonial for approval before posting it. Contact team@apnipathshala.org to update or remove it.

1.2 What Apni Prerna Can Access on Your Child’s Device

Apni Prerna is monitoring and safety software that you install on your child’s learning device. Once installed, and for as long as it remains active, the Service accesses the following in order to function:

Installed applications and usage: which applications are installed, opened, and how long they are used, so we can enforce application controls and show you usage summaries.
Browsing activity: websites visited and time spent, so we can enforce content filtering and website blocking.
Device health data: storage availability, memory (RAM) usage, battery status, and last-online/last-seen timestamps, so we can alert you or your device administrator to problems.
System and network status: information necessary to install updates, run troubleshooting scripts, and provide remote technical support when requested.
Screen-time and activity summaries: aggregated patterns of active use versus idle time, shown on your Parent Dashboard.
Account and login activity on the device.
Screenshots or periodic screen captures of on-screen activity, captured at [interval/trigger — describe: e.g., fixed intervals, or when a filtering rule is triggered], for content review and safety monitoring purposes.
Microphone access status — for example, whether the microphone is currently active and which application is using it — for [specific purpose to be confirmed with engineering, e.g., device security alerting]. Apni Prerna does not record, capture, or store the content of any audio picked up by the microphone.
Files stored on the device, beyond application and browser activity — for example, documents or downloaded files.

What Apni Prerna does not access: unless a specific optional feature is separately enabled with your explicit, additional consent and clearly disclosed to you at that time, the Service does not access your child’s camera, precise GPS location, or the content of audio captured by the microphone.

1.2.1 Important Notice — Screen Recording, Microphone Status, and File Access

Screen capture, microphone status detection, and file access are more sensitive than app or browsing monitoring, and this section requires your particular attention:

Screenshots may incidentally capture content belonging to other people who are not your child and who have not separately consented — for example, a classmate’s message visible on screen, or another person’s face during a video call. You should understand this before enabling the feature.
Apni Prerna’s microphone access is limited to detecting microphone status or usage (for example, that an application is actively using the microphone); it does not record, transmit, or store the audio content itself.
If audio content is ever captured (now or in a future version), note that audio/telephonic recording is subject to specific, and often strict, legal requirements in many jurisdictions (wiretap or eavesdropping laws), which can require the consent of every party being recorded, not just a parent’s consent for a minor.
We recommend screen-recording and file-access features be clearly disclosed to you at setup, with the option to review or disable them from your Parent Dashboard.

1.3 Information We Collect Automatically From Our Website and Dashboard

Standard web log data: IP address, browser type, referring URL, and time of access, when you use our website or Parent Dashboard.
Cookies: first-party cookies used to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences. We do not use non-essential third-party advertising cookies.

1.4 Information From Third Parties

Sign-in providers: If you sign in using a federated provider such as Google, they will share your name and email address with us to complete authentication.
Payment processors: Our payment gateway partners share confirmation of successful transactions with us.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide the Service: content filtering, application controls, device health monitoring, and the Parent Dashboard.
To create and maintain your Account and your child’s profile, and to watch for unauthorized account activity.
To communicate with you about the Service, your subscription, support requests, and policy updates.
To provide customer support.
To analyze aggregated, de-identified usage trends to improve the Service.
To detect and prevent fraud or misuse, and to comply with legal obligations.

We rely on your consent, and on the need to perform the subscription agreement between you and us, as the legal basis for these uses.

3. Your Choices

Opt out of non-essential communications using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. You will still receive essential account, security, and billing notices.
Disable non-essential cookies in your browser, though some website features may not work as intended.
Choose not to provide optional profile information such as a photo.
Pause or disable specific monitoring features from your Parent Dashboard, where the Service allows this; note that disabling certain features may reduce the safety functions the Service provides.

4. Who We Share Your Information With

We do not sell your or your child’s personal information. We share it only as follows:

Employees and contractors: our staff and contractors may access information on a need-to-know basis, under confidentiality obligations.
Service providers: companies that help us operate the Service — such as hosting providers, payment processors, and customer support tools — under contracts that limit their use of your information to providing that service to us.
Legal and safety reasons: where required by law, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Apni Prerna, our users, or the public.
Business transfers: if we are acquired or merge with another company, your information may transfer as part of that deal, subject to the acquiring party honoring the commitments in this Policy.

5. Your Rights

Right to access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and your child.
Right to rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate information.
Right to erasure: request deletion of your or your child’s personal information, subject to limited legal retention exceptions.
Right to restriction: ask us to limit certain uses of your information.
Right to data portability: request your information in a structured, machine-readable format.
Right to object: object to certain uses, such as direct marketing.
Right to withdraw consent: withdraw consent for your child’s data to be processed at any time, understanding this may disable monitoring or safety features.
Right to complain: raise concerns about how we handle your information by contacting us directly.

To exercise any of these rights, email team@apnipathshala.org with the subject line “Data Request.” We will verify your identity as the account holder and, where applicable, your authority as the child’s parent or legal guardian, before acting.

6. Retention of Information

We retain your account information and your child’s activity data for as long as your subscription is active. If you close your Account, we will delete your data from our active systems within 6 months, and from backups within 3 months after that, except where we are legally required to retain it for longer.

Part II — Service Data We Process on Your Behalf

1. Ownership and Control

You own the data your child generates through the Service (“Service Data”) — such as learning activity, portfolio content, and usage history. We give you the ability to access, export, and request deletion of this Service Data at any time through your Parent Dashboard or by contacting us.

2. How We Use Service Data

We process Service Data to operate the features you and your child use — for example, using browsing activity to apply content filters you’ve configured, or using device health data to alert you to a low-storage warning.

3. Notifications

If you enable notifications, we will send alerts (e.g., device offline, content filter triggered) through your device’s or browser’s push notification service. You can manage these in your Account or device settings.

4. Who We Share Service Data With

Employees and contractors, to identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues, with access logged and audited.
Third-party integrations you choose to enable, subject to that third party’s own privacy practices, which we encourage you to review before enabling.

5. Retention of Service Data

We retain your Service Data for as long as your Account remains active. We do not automatically delete Service Data, including screenshots, browsing data, usage data, and accessed files, unless you specifically request its deletion.

You may request the deletion of specific Service Data without closing your Account by emailing team@apnipathshala.org. We will process the request in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Part III — General

1. Children’s Personal Information and Parental Consent

Apni Prerna is designed to be used by children under the direct consent and supervision of their parent or legal guardian. We only collect a child’s information because a Parent has created the Account and provided consent for that child’s monitored profile.

We collect only the child information reasonably necessary to provide the Service’s safety and learning features.
We do not knowingly use a child’s information for targeted advertising, and we never sell it.
Where required by applicable law (including India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or equivalent children’s-privacy laws where you reside), we rely on your verifiable parental consent to process your child’s data, and we will honor your withdrawal of that consent.
You are responsible for explaining to your child, in an age-appropriate way, that this monitoring is in place.

If you believe we hold a child’s information without appropriate parental consent, contact team@apnipathshala.org immediately and we will investigate and delete the information where required.

2. How Secure Is Your Information

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your and your child’s information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, or loss. If you have any concerns about the security of your data, contact us at team@apnipathshala.org.

3. Automated Processing

We may use automated tools such as usage analytics to detect patterns (e.g., unusual device activity) and improve the Service. We do not use your child’s Service Data to build advertising profiles, and any use of aggregated data to improve our detection models relies only on de-identified data.

4. Do Not Track (DNT) Requests

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is currently no common industry standard for how to respond to it, so we do not take a specific action in response to DNT signals at this time.

5. External Links

Our website or dashboard may link to third-party sites not covered by this Policy. Review their privacy practices before sharing personal information with them.

6. Legal Compliance and Enforcement

We may disclose information where required by law, legal process, or governmental request, or where necessary to investigate fraud, protect our rights, or protect the safety of our users.

7. Business Transfers

We do not intend to sell our business. If we are ever acquired or merged, we will require the acquiring entity to honor the commitments described in this Policy, and we will notify you of any change.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make a material change that affects your or your child’s rights, we will give you at least 30 days’ advance notice by email before it takes effect. Continued use of the Service after that date means you accept the updated Policy.
